I'm a pretty easy going guy. But sometimes I find someone (or someone finds me) that I don't really like all that well. I usually do my best to either mend the relationship or simply avoid the person. My mother has been an amazing source of information on how to deal with people that I may not get along with all that well.

One of these people is Rachel's Mother. I've tried to be nice to her for the last four years. I've done my best to make sure that Rachel wouldn't be dissapointed in my efforts to cull her mother into my list of friends. I've tried an active approach, and I've tried a passive approach. Over four years, you have a lot of time to try to earn someone's respect.

During these four years, I have shown Rachel unconditional love. Rachel and I had a sore spot awhile ago, but all of that is over now, and she and I are stronger than ever. Our love can really move mountians. However, there is one obstical that complicates our future. Even when Rachel speaks on my behalf, all she receives in response is a grudging reply (if anything at all).

My girlfriend is a wonderful woman. Anyone who would face one of their own family members for an 'outsider' is a very strong individual indeed. However, if I trace back to the start of many of the problems or fights in my relationship with Rachel, many of those roads lead to her mother.

I really get upset sometimes when I think about all the fun that I could be having with Rachel's family if Rachel's mother were more amiable. I've tried to just ignore her for some time. I've made wonderful friends with Rachel's father, who is an astounding man. Her little brother, Beau is a wonderful guy, and I wish I got to hang out with him more. We have really grown close through Scouting and having quality times with one another. He is such a hard worker.

Rachel's little sister, Elizabeth...wow, she's amazing. She is going to grow up to be such a great woman. Rachel has shown her so much in life. Elizabeth is going to be something that we can all be proud of.

However, when I reach Rachel's mother...well, a wall goes up. I simply cannot impress that woman, or show her my love by just being me. And I fear if I show her my pent up feelings, that she would reject me even more. I have heard over and over again that, "there are just some people in this world that you can never be close to."

Well, I crave desperately to have the person who could be my Mother-in-Law to be in love with me. I have always dreamed of having two healthy families...a perfect environment in which to raise my own. I would love for my children to have two wonderful grandmothers. Something I didn't have. My now deceased grandmother was an alcoholic who showed me love only on rare occasions (one or two that I remember). I can't help but think that those times were artificial, and prompted by my parents.

Anyway...to my point...

Maria, if you read this before I talk to you, you'll have a head start. However, today, I'm going to call you and set up a meeting in which we can talk to each other about our feelings. I really hope that a formal exchange of feelings can bring new life to our relationship.

I really should get to work...hopefully today will be a good day.

There's a girl in Japan who loves me, and I love her with all my heart. Rachel, I think about you all the time, and the last four years have been the best years of my life. Thank you for sharing them with me! I'm so happy I could burst! More rain just means more clouds for me to float over.

Today sounds like a nice day to take out the Bike.
So, I thought I might do an update about the house. Its coming along pretty well. I have been riding some serious ass in order for things to run as quickly as they have been. Recently, I've been really stressed over my roofer. He has put me off for two days and he owes me 500 bucks from another job he did early last year. Well, today I made a decision and called one of my former coworkers (who is now a roofer) and had them come appraise the house for a roofing job. Within minutes he had a lower price than what I was paying the deliquent and he says he can bang it out tomorrow in one day (The other guy said two days). Anyway...here are some pictures.

I miss Rachel.

The Emperor leads the way
into the world that The Empress allowed us to
experience. He is the archetype of the Father
who provides the organization and structure of
the world. The Emperor is the government, and
as such represents control. At this stage in
The Fool's Journey, there is no need to deviate
from the status quo. By participating actively
in society, we come to an understanding of
social structure. The Emperor applies the laws
and rules for us to follow. The Emperor is the
first of the zodiacal attributions in the major
arcana. He shares with Aries a creative energy
and, at his best, responsibility for the
subjects in his charge. At his worst he can
become domineering and authoritarian. I swear, the two of us are truely happy together. I don't think that anyone in the world can take that away from us. Now that I have Rachel's father on my side (he rules), I think things will be going a lot more smoothly.

Rachel's Dad is something else. He is so down to earth. I mean, for someone who works all day doing a job that few would even think about, he is amazingly chill. I'm pretty sure that Rachel takes after her father a hell of a lot more than her mother. Dr. Chaffin is knowledgable about so many different aspects of life...after I finished talking with him when we had dinner together, I honestly couldn't wait to do it again soon. I was kinda like talking to my Grandfather, but about topics that I could relate to (not WW2, or Car airstreaming in the 50s).

So, Imma lookin' forward to spendin' plenty of time with Rachel's dad in the future. When you drive up to someone's house, and they are sitting on the porch reading a novel and smokin' the fattest cigar that you've ever seen in a total state of relaxation, you kindle a little bit of cool within yourself.

Well, Rachel has fallen asleep after a day of fun...It's 9 o'clock *laugh*. She is over the Jet lag (I think), but I don't know if she can keep on keepin' up with all the things we pack into a day. I love that girl so much. Every moment I spend with her now-a-days is so precious.

The candidate pool this year was one of the highest we've had and the quality of the candidates was equally as high. This, on top of the fact that a very large portion of our current Community Advisors are re-applying to come back, has made for a very difficult selection process for the professional staff.

We are happy to offer you a position as a Community Advisor with the Office of Housing and Residence Life. At this time, we have not decided final building placements for staff for the 2004-2005 year. We have several factors playing into CA selections this year, such as several of our current CA staff applying for Residence Director and Head Resident positions as well as a number of current staff who are on probation with the department who could potentially not be asked back for the 2004-2005 academic year. We are, however, taking into consideration the population preferences you expressed on your application in considering your placement. As I shared during the interview process, the Supervisors did not see your original building preferences in an effort to pick the most qualified staff and then place you in the building we felt you would best be effective. We will be notifying you towards the end of March, probably after March 29, as to your placement and asking you to complete the CA Work Agreement at that point to accept your offer to join our Housing and Residence Life team.

Of course, this offer of employment is contingent upon your continued success academically this semester with maintaining a 2.75 or greater cumulative GPA and not having any judicial sanctions or cases pending against you. Grade checks will be performed at the end of the Spring semester once the Registrar has posted them and offers of employment may be rescinded should your grades not meet our requirements.

Again, congratulations. We are looking forward to working with you next year. I will be updating you at the end of March/early April as to your building placement. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Brad_Johnson@uncg.edu.

Respectfully,

Brad Johnson
Assistant Director for Residential Life

SCORE! Well, those 'friends' that this person so dearly loves (she loves them just like a typical American person views the 'friends' concept) don't give a rat’s ass about this person. They were associated with a group that I happened to be a part of in Japan, and when I mentioned this person's name to the group, all they could say was, "Oh, she was kind of silly. I never understood her."

This is pretty much how Japanese people do the 'friends' thing. From my experience they don't develop extremely close personal relationships with 'friends.' *shrug* I'm a bias person, apparently. I really had a great time in Japan, but I'll tell ya what, I have a much better time here in the US. I should do a little post about how much fun Japan was.

People say, "you'll totally change when you study abroad." I think that may be a misconceived statement. For two reasons: One, people who study abroad may have lead a slightly sheltered life before their abroad experience. Two, maybe they have no idea what it is to study abroad (the latter is probably the most likely reason).

Anyway...I did change some after coming back from Japan. From the stares and comments I've received so far...most of it must have been pretty bad. However, I have developed a strong liking for America and its bounty of freedom and variety.

*ponder*

*West Virginia voice* Well, in other news, you Guilford folk are the only people who read this pretty much, so don't ya'll be afraid none ta reply. I don't bite nun. *snicker*

I guess I should clear up the 'dropout' thing. I joke around a lot, you guys take me a little too seriously sometimes. I'm currently contracting houses in West Virginia, and I'm looking hard around Greensboro...if any of you know a place near Guilford or UNCG that is a 'vacant lot,' lemme know. I've found one on Holden that I think I'm gonna snag, but a better deal would be sweet. Realtors charge 8 to 10 percent...of 50,000 bucks, that's quite a pretty penny...so I'll be willing to pay a few hundred bucks to one of you if you find something that suits the needs.

I guess I don't talk to you all about stuff like that (contracting and the like) very often because I'm kinda embarrassed about it.

I don't wanna perpetuate the "dumb redneck" stereotype any more than I really have to. I really respect you guys, and you're such great friends to Rachel and I.

Before I left for Japan I weighed 200lbs. I felt like I was in decent shape at that time. When I got back from Japan I was 150lbs. I was borderline starving (really unhealthy..."sickly" would be a good word to use). I ate really well in Japan (four or five times a day), but the food just wouldn't stick with me. I had to stop working out while I was there, because it was causing me to lose too much weight. Right now, I have set goals to gain five pounds a week for the next few weeks. After three weeks of being in the States, I'm back at 180, but I don't think the next twenty are going to come as easily as the last thirty. I've been getting in the gym five days a week since I've been back, and working most of the day...so I'm regaining some of the solid build I had.

Anyway...Rachel gets back at 10AM tomorrow...and I'm pretty stoked. I've gotta get back to doin' what I do though, so I'll see you guys later!
